SCV Camp 1360, St. Johns Rangers are dedicated to preserving our Confederate history and the honor of our ancestors who fought for their homes, families, and rights under the flag of the Confederate States of America. Our mission is to educate our community about who our Confederate ancestors were, what they fought for, and what can be learned from their sacrifices on behalf of the Confederate Cause. With historical facts previously taught in school and government archive documents, SCV Camp 1360 exposes the modern divisive term "Myth of The Lost Cause" as a lie to divide America and propagate victim mentality in our society.
Many of our fellow Americans have been misinformed about Confederate History and Southern Culture. American communities all across our great nation have allowed politics and political agendas to infiltrate our educational institutions. The myth of the "Lost Cause" was created to rewrite history to make slavery as the SOLE cause of the War Between the States. While slavery was a factor of tension between Northern and Southern States since the early 19th Century as America expanded westward; there were many other issues that developed that culminated in the war from 1861-1865. The final flame that lit the fuse to the powder keg was the North's inability to accept the Southern State's Right to leave the Union. That is what Jefferson Davis and all Confederate Veterans meant when they said the war was about "State's Rights"; their right to secede from the Union and change their form of government as detailed by Thomas Jefferson in the U.S. Declaration of Independence. The Rights and Liberty defined by Thomas Jefferson was and still is The Confederate Cause that we, The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Camp 1360, The St. Johns Rangers are devoted to.
To understand what the "WOKE" mean when they call a person with a different view a "history revisionist", we first have to examine that term. How does a person revise or revision a historical event? You can't change documented facts, so the only way to "revise" or "revision" history is to leave out the facts and make it one sided. For example, say the Civil War was only about slavery and leave out the Compromise of 1830, Missouri Compromise, John Brown violence in Kansas and Harpers Ferry, the election and so on. That would be history revisionism.
The expansion of the U.S. West after the Louisianna Purchase led to an explosion of hostilities between the North and the agricultural South. As western territories moved to become states, the question of whether they should be slave or free states caused great tension between politicians and citizens. Compromises where created that allowed one state to enter into the Union as a Free state and another as a Slave state. Violence became more and more common after the Kansas-Nebraska Act, the agricultural economy of the South began to worry about their livelihoods and lives. The Northern politicians, backed by wealthy Abolitionist would not work with the Southern politicians, who were backed by the wealthy large plantation owners. By the election of 1860, the Union was at its boiling point, and when Abe Lincoln won the South cried "election fraud". Since Abraham Lincoln was left off of all Southern ballots, Southerners excepted him to lose for sure. Since he was declared the winner, the South assumed fraud had took place and secession began. One Southern State after another left the Union. Since the North would not recognize the Southern States RIGHT to secede from the Union, the war was certain. To make sure war began, Abe Lincoln sent a resupply ship to Ft. Sumter even though Jefferson Davis was demanding the Union forces leave the fort that is on CSA land. On April 12, 1861, as the ship entered Charleston Harbor, war began.
SCV Camp 1360 provides the True History of the South with all the facts. We do not tell you "what you need to know", nor do we "tell" you anything. We will present the facts, with the supporting evidence, and allow you to make up your own mind. What most people soon realize is that they have only been told one side of history. Once they learn who the South really was pre and post Civil War, they learn a deeper respect for America as a whole.
